OUR AMERICA: THE LATINO PRESENCE IN AMERICAN ART
exhibition catalog

In art galleries, art history courses, and discussions about art, the powerful work of Latino artists has been underrepresented. This book is part of an elemental change that’s refocusing exhibitions, art education, and discussions on celebrating Latino art as an essential and integral part of American art.

This large format, 368-page book explores how Mexican American, Puerto Rican, and Cuban American artists from the 1950s to the present shaped the artistic movements of their day and recalibrated key themes in American art and culture.

The book’s design concept takes its inspiration from a quote in the catalogue, “… Latino art emerges as a disruptive force within American art that re-calibrates established artistic and historical narratives.” Emphasizing an assertive character and sense of disruption, the design uses strong angular shapes and graphic devices, contrasting glossy paper with tinted matte coatings, which transform and transfigure the space in surprising ways.
